In the Netherlands, about 1.7 million people with an occupational disability would like to work. Yet they often do not get this opportunity. The focus is often on what someone cannot do, rather than on what someone can do. At ABN AMRO, we believe that everyone has talent. That is why we offer people with an occupational disability targeted opportunities to develop and participate in the labour market.
With the B-Able initiative, we support people with a distance to the labour market. We look for suitable positions within the bank that suit people with an occupational disability. When they start working at ABN AMRO, they receive guidance from the B-Able Desk. We work closely with various departments within the bank. We also receive support from specialised social enterprises, such as Onbeperkt aan de Slag and Ctalents.
With the right agreements, facilities and guidance, employees with an occupational disability make an important contribution to ABN AMRO. There are currently about 150 employees with an occupational disability working at the bank. Our goal is to grow this number to 225 by 2026. These are regular jobs with an appropriate salary. In this way, we contribute to financial independence and job satisfaction.
When people with an occupational disability can work for a long time, it is good for them and for society. They are less dependent on benefits and can actively participate. We also see positive effects within our organisation. Teams with employees with an occupational disability often experience more job satisfaction, higher customer satisfaction and better performance.

I’m on the committee of the B-Able staff network, a bank-based network for staff members with a disability. The B-Able programme enables the bank to help people with poor job prospects. Thanks to this programme, more people with disabilities are finding jobs at ABN AMRO. That’s obviously fantastic.
